Lacombe Parks And Recreation / Rec District 4

Parental Code of Conduct

Recreation District #4 would like to thank you for your continued support in attending and participating in Lacombe Parks and Recreation activities! The staff here at Recreation District #4 works to ensure the safety, development, and fun for each athlete that comes through our center for recreation and activities.

As a parent in our great community, we ask that you take a look at our expectations for our parents that attend our games and events.

We expect our parents, family members, fans, and associates of our young athletes to:

  • Attend the games to be a fan of their athlete. We understand a parent will always be a parent, but your athlete is the reason we all are here. The primary focus is to develop confidence, create positive memories, practice for their sport, develop good sportsmanship, and most importantly to have fun.
  • The parent is responsible for their behavior, actions, and verbal language of myself during any program/activity involving Recreation District #4. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.
  • The parent will conduct himself/herself in a manner that will show respect their self, their athlete, both teams participating, the fans, & Recreation District #4. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.
  • Parents, fans of the athlete, and the athlete shall leave home facility and visiting facility as clean as it was when they arrived to their game.
  • No trash, equipment, or personal belongings should be left at any facility visited by a Recreation District #4 parent, fan, or athlete.
  • Reminder: The coaches of your child's team is a volunteer and is governed by Recreation District #4 to hold hisself/herself to standards in a respectable manner & lead by example for this Recreation District, his/her community, his/her own personal image, and their respective team.
  • If a parent has a has a concern about something regarding their athlete, the team, or the coach; they must follow proper channels to correct or eliminate their concern. The parent must go through proper channels starting with the Head Coach, then Athletic Director with the coach, & if necessary the Executive Director. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
  • The Athletic Director & Executive Director are not at liberty to overrule or engage themselves into disciplinary decision a coach has in regards to an athlete, because that is their own way of governing their team. This contract also states that the parent will do their part in encouraging, uplifting, and supporting their team, the players & the coaches of their respective sport.
  • I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  • I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
  • I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
  • I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well being of the athletes.
  • I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  • I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  • I will teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
  • I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.
  • I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de- emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
  • I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.

  • I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.
  • I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
